ORGANIZATIONAL RESEARCH - This step is very useful in developing realistic expectations in regard to your grant writing efforts and to positioning your organization for success in the grant writing process. It involves an exploration of your organization’s infrastructure and past success in submitting grant proposals, and can generally be completed in less than two days.

PROSPECT RESEARCH IDENTIFICATION - Specific and targeted sources of funding can be identified using numerous electronic grant search engines, competitor’s analyses, review of a foundation’s recent Form 990 filings, and network contacts. This list of potential funders may target private foundations, corporate giving programs, government opportunities (city, state, and federal), and family foundations.

CONTACT BUILDING AND VETTING - To complete the identification process, it is recommended that each prospect be contacted. This step has a two-fold purpose. First, it enables determination of the synergy between your organization and the potential funding source. Second, it provides an ideal opportunity to begin "selling" the proposed project to funder. At the conclusion of this step, a customized Grants Submission Calendar can be developed.

WRITING AND SUBMISSIONS - Regardless of whether a large federal grant application or a smaller proposal to a private family foundation is being prepared, you can expect complete writing and preparation of all components. Content is always written and edited for timely and accurate submission, as well as for clarity, style, and, impact. And, the final proposal package can be submitted for you (via a standard or electronic process), to their respective foundations.

GRANTS MANAGEMENT - If desired, a project file can be created to document all major actions from grant award through closeout. It could further include master Grants and Report Submission Calendars, and a complete delineation of the essential terms and conditions of a grant award.
